We invite you to take part in a journey full of mystery and colour through the fjords of Finland, a journey that will last for three evenings, accompanied by the music of the great composer Jean Sibelius.

The Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Mikko Franck, will present the seven symphonies by Jean Sibelius, as well as his wonderful Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D minor, which you will hear in an exceptional solo vision by American violinist Hilary Hahn.

The programme for Wednesday April 10th includes Symphony No.1 op.39 in E minor and Symphony No.2 op.43 in D major, written by this original creator who left us a music full of the power of the Nordic myths, full of lyricism but also of a winged grandeur revealed in the construction of his melodic lines.

On Thursday April 11th, the European Stage will play the Symphony No.3 Op.52 in C major, the Concerto No.47 in D minor for violin and orchestra and the Symphony No.4 Op.63 in A minor, major works by the author of the tone poem Finlandia, which became the unofficial anthem of his country.

Jean Sibelius lived for 92 years, spanning two centuries from 1865 to 1957. Maligned by some during his lifetime, praised by others, he is now considered a great symphonist of the early 20th century.

On Friday April 12th, we hear some of his work, the Symphonies No. 5 Op. 82 in E flat major, No. 6 Op. 104 in D minor and No. 7 Op. 105 in C major. The latter, completed in 1924 and imagined as a symphonic fantasy, attempts to capture, as the composer himself noted, "The joy of life and a vitality mixed with passion".

The three concerts will start at 9 pm and will be conducted by Mikko Franck, a Finnish conductor born in 1979 in Helsinki. He became music director of the Orchestre Philharmonique Radio France in 2015. His contract has been renewed twice, most recently until September 2025.

So, three evenings dedicated to the music of Jean Sibelius at the Auditorium of the Maison de la Radio in Paris, broadcast live by Radio România Muzical! We are waiting for you!
